At Last!

Well, I've finally arrived in Oxford after a seven hour flight, an hour and a half bus ride, and endless wandering around the streets of Oxford City trying to find Somerville college. Fortunately, the locals have been quite helpful--we really do look like a bunch of touristy Americans, especially when there's fifteen of us toting enormous suitcases on wheels, one of which managed to lose a wheel halfway to our destination. The city is beautiful and the college is awesome. I'm staying in Wolfson B dorms. The rooms are large, and though there's no AC, it gets cool enough at night that you don't miss it. We walked around Oxford City yesterday, mainly just to get our bearings, and took a brief tour of St. Mary's Cathedral. The view from the top is incredible. I'll have to upload some pictures once I figure out how to get them from my camera onto this computer. The food is excellent. In fact, I just finished breakfast--sausage, ham, stewed tomatoes, a fried egg, and toast. The coffee isn't bad either.

T Minus Zero

Today's the day! Everything's all packed and ready to go. The flight leaves at 6:10 tonight and I'll be arriving in England tomorrow morning around 7:00. Given the time difference, it could be worse. Losing the wee hours of the morning is certainly preferable to the middle of the day. Here's to surviving jetlag. Hopefully everything will go smoothly with check-in and security. I've got my fingers crossed that I won't be randomly selected and forced to stand in a yellow square in public display while an underpaid security officer frisks me as I was when I last traveled to New York. Just going over the final checklist now. Not much time left. Oxford awaits...
